How do I receive money back for my books?

You can receive money back for your books by signing up for an American Express Serve® Account. Ship your books back to Chegg using your shipping label and Chegg will send the money quoted for your books to your American Express Serve Account within 24 hours after your books are received and processed. Books over $50 may take up to 48 hours to process. If you do not wish to sign up for an American Express Serve Account, you can choose to receive Chegg credit to use on chegg.com.

How long does it take for the money to appear in my Serve Account?

Chegg will send the money for your textbooks to your American Express Serve Account within 24 hours after your books are received and processed at Chegg. Once you accept the funds, they will immediately appear in your American Express Serve Account.

How can I access my money from Chegg with my American Express Serve Account?

Once you have successfully opened your American Express Serve Account, you will need to accept the money Chegg sends you in order to use the funds. Accept the funds by clicking "Action Required" in the Chegg disbursement line item of your transactions. You will then see an option to "Accept Transaction." Once you've clicked this button, your funds will be available in your American Express Serve Account immediately. If you cancel or negotiate the transaction, it will automatically be canceled. To spend or withdraw your money from an ATM, you need to first activate your American Express® Serve Card.

Can I receive money for my books from Chegg without signing up for American Express Serve?

Signing up for an American Express Serve Account is the primary way you can receive money for your books when selling them back to Chegg. If you do not wish to open an American Express Serve Account and receive money, you can alternatively choose to receive Chegg credit to use on chegg.com.

It has been more than 24 hours since my books were processed by Chegg but the money is not appearing on my American Express Serve Account statement. What should I do?

If it has been more than 24 hours since your books were processed and the funds are not appearing in your American Express Serve Account for you to accept, please contact Serve Customer Service at 1‑800‑954‑0559 for assistance.

I signed up for an American Express Serve Account but there was a problem verifying my information. What should I do?

If there is a problem verifying your information, you should receive an email to the address you submitted in registration informing you of next steps to verify your Account. Next steps involve sending additional documentation to American Express Serve to confirm your identity. If you are unsure what information is needed or need additional help, please call Serve Customer Service at 1‑800‑954‑0559.

I submitted a different email address to Chegg than the email address I used to sign up for American Express Serve. What do I do now?

No problem. Just log in to your existing Serve Account and go to My Account >> Profile. In the Profile section, add the email address to which the money from Chegg was sent, and the transaction will appear in your Account. Then all you have to do is accept the transaction to access the funds.

What are the fees associated with my Serve Account?

American Express Serve has low fees and nothing to hide. Below is some helpful information to help you understand the fees and how you may avoid them.

1 Receiving money from another Accountholder does not count toward the $500 load amount.

2 Cash advance fees for credit card loads may apply; check with your credit card issuer for details

3 MoneyPak fee of up to $4.95 applies. Vanilla Reload fee of up to $3.95 applies.

I signed up for a Serve Account, but I haven't received my verification email. What do I do?

The Serve Account verification email should arrive in your email inbox within 30 minutes of registration. If it has not arrived, the first step is to check your spam folder or junk mail. The email is valid for seven days. If you still have not received the verification, you can log in to your Serve Account and request a new email verification by clicking Resend Email on your Serve Account dashboard. Still having trouble? Call Serve Customer Service at 1‑800‑954‑0559.

When will I get my new American Express Serve Card in the mail so I can activate it?

You should receive your Serve Card within 7-10 business days after you sign up.

How do I activate my Serve Card?

Have your Card in hand and visit serve.com/activate or call 1-800-597-0184. Follow the prompts to activate your Card and then it is ready for use on purchases.

I received my American Express Serve Card in the mail and activated it. What’s the next step?

If you haven’t already, add money to your American Express Serve Account using Direct Deposit, a bank account, debit card, or credit card (cash advance fees may apply for credit card loads; please check with your credit card issuer for details). Can I make a purchase with my Serve Card if I don't have enough available funds in my Account to complete my purchase?

If you have a credit card or debit card linked to your Serve Account, the card you have set as your backup funding source will be used for the remaining balance of your purchase. If you do not have a backup funding source, you will have to add money to your Serve Account before you can make your purchase. Please note that cash advance fees may apply for credit card loads; please check with your credit card issuer for details.

I was trying to access my Serve Account, but I got locked out because I forgot my password. What do I do?

You can reset your password online at serve.com. Just click Reset my Password on the login page and follow the steps. If you cannot successfully reset your password online, you can always call Serve Customer Service at 1‑800‑954‑0559 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
